Standards for the Week:

Standard 1:  The learner demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Standard 2: The learner understands strategies, tactics, and principles as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Monday:
  • Group Project:  Zumba Fitness Workout Routine using music from different cultures: 
    • Bollywood
    • African
    • Caribbean
    • Latin American
  • Review Project Rubric:
    • Synchronization
    • Duration
    • Energy
    • BPM
    • Music
    • Dance Moves: Must be moves from culture assigned.
    • Creativity: PowerPoint Presentation and uniform

  • Review music from different cultural backgrounds
  • Review Heart Rate:
    • Maximum heart rate
    • Target heart rate
    • Resting heart rate
    • Recovery heart rate
  • Review  F.I.T.T. Principle for the Unit:
    • F: Frequency- Zumba 5x a week, muscular endurance exercises 3x a week, and flexibility exercises 5x a week.
    • I: Intensity-Students must hit target heart rate
    • T: Type: Cardiovascualar Endurance, Muscular Endurance, and Flexibility
    • T: Time: Zumba: 45 minutes   Flexibility: 10 minutes      Muscular Endurance: 10 minutes
  • Introduce Training Principles: Overload, Progression, and Specificity
  • Warm-up: Zumba Routine
  • Muscular Endurance and Muscular Strength Exercises 
  • Group work: Create a Zumba Fitness Routine

Tuesday:
  • Review Heart Rate Information
  • Review Training Principles: Overload, Progression, and Specificity 
  • Warm-up: Caribbean Zumba Routine
  • Workout: Higher intensity Zumba fitness routine that allows students to reach their target heart rate
  • Group Exercises: Dynamic Stretching
  • Group Work: Create a Zumba Fitness Routine
  • Cool-down/Closing: Static Stretching
Wednesday:
  • Quiz: Heart Rate, Training Principles, Standards, and F.I.T.T Principle. 
  • Warm-up: 1200 Meter Jog
  • Group Exercises: Muscular Endurance Exercises: Lower Body Focus
  • Group work: Zumba Routine Project
  • Self & Peer Evaluation- Personal and Social Responsibility- Don Hellison's 5 Levels of Responsibility. Students must rate themselves. 
  • Closing/Cool-down- Static Stretching

Friday:
  • Warm-up: Dance Hall Zumba Routine- Low Intensity
  • Cardiovascular Endurance Workout- Dance Hall Zumba Routine: High Intensity- students must check heart rate
